Company Overview

Marous Brothers Construction was founded in 1980 by brothers Scott and Adelbert “Chip” Marous, Jr. At the ages of 23 and 19 respectively, they started their business offering home remodeling and carpentry for small sized projects. Before the end of their initial year, they landed their first commercial project – installing cabinets, frames, doors and hardware for a fifty-unit apartment building.

In 1982, while providing carpentry services for Saint Nicholas Church in Mentor, Ohio, they hired their first employee, Joe Gorka, who is a dedicated superintendent with Marous Brothers Construction today.

As the company grew, the mid-1980’s were spent traveling with crews to various out-of-state hotel construction sites. Marous Brothers Construction provided carpentry services for Skylight Inns located throughout Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, and Michigan.

In 1985, Marous Brothers Construction purchased a dilapidated building in downtown Willoughby that would eventually become the site of their first corporate headquarters. This building, located on the corner of Clark Avenue and Second Street, signified their launch into historic renovation. Over the next five years, Marous Brothers Construction would restore six additional historic buildings in downtown Willoughby, four of them as Owner/Developer. One of those buildings, the former Coleman Dodge building on Second Street would be renovated into the more spacious, second corporate headquarters for Marous Brothers Construction.

During these years, Marous Brothers Construction continued to develop its impressive reputation as a quality-driven Carpenter Contractor with such notable projects as Jacobs Field, Gund Arena, University Hospitals Lerner Tower, and the Riverbend Condominiums.

The year 1995 was a pivotal one for Marous Brothers Construction when they were awarded the contract as General Contractor for the $10 million historic renovation of the Central YMCA in downtown Cleveland. This complicated venture included the demolition and historic renovation of 9 stories of apartments, offices, basketball courts, a swimming pool and other athletic areas. The successful completion of this project catapulted Marous Brothers Construction into securing contracts for other General Contracting work such  as The Pointe At Gateway, The Otis Terminal Warehouse Renovation, Hampton Inn and The Arcade, all located in downtown Cleveland.

In 1997, a third brother, Kenneth, joined the firm to contribute his many years of experience in excavating, site preparation, and underground utility installation.

Today, Marous Brothers Construction is the leading construction firm in the Midwest offering integrated services for complete construction solutions. Our Site and Carpentry and Interior Finishes Groups offer self-performing construction and related services, giving us greater control of budget, schedule and, most importantly, quality. We are also the premier contractor for Historic Preservation projects, having served as General Contractor on the area’s most notable project. Our Design/Build approach offers our clients direct access to our in-house staff for more control in the design phase of a project. To adequately address the needs of our smaller sized projects, in 2003, we formed the Special Projects Group to provide clients with budgets up to $3 million with the same level of quality and service as given to larger projects. As a Construction Manager, Marous Brothers Construction brings our expertise to every aspect of a project.

Now, in our fourth decade, Marous Brothers Construction has established a compelling portfolio of projects spanning a variety of sectors, including multi-family residential, healthcare, higher education, cultural arts, and hospitality. Most recently, we completed a major transformation of the former Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Cleveland into a luxurious 472-room Westin Hotel.

With the continued growth and success of our company, Marous Brothers Construction has expanded our footprint into exciting new regional markets, bringing to bear our unique preconstruction and construction phase expertise in New York, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Washington D.C. As our existing clients expand into these markets, we have helped them to achieve successes, and at the same time, we have attracted new clients to build our brand awareness outside of Greater Cleveland.

We have built a reputation for integrity, professionalism and quality over the years. Now, and into the future, we will continue to build and strengthen our organization by staying committed to offering the highest quality products and services possible, by exceeding our clients’ expectations, and by offering our employees expanded opportunities for personal and professional development.
