Charter Steel is hiring a Regional Account Manager! This role will be focusing on our Michigan and Ohio territory.

An ideal candidate will be located in Detroit, Michigan or Cleveland, Ohio.

This role will develop strong customer relationships within the assigned MI + OH territory to provide the organization with an optimal combination of product volume, product mix, and margin enhancement that supports the short and long term operational and financial goals of the company for a customer base that generates approximately $75 to $125 million in sales.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing or related field.
  • Strong track record of success with 7 plus years' of sales experience in steel or industrial equivalent.
  • Proven ability of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Experience effectively coordinating customer claims with strong communication processes between the customer and internal producing mill.
  • Strong customer focus, relationship orientation and business acumen.
  • Ability to provide clear understanding of a customer situation.
  • Communication skills in; verbal, presentation, written, analytical, leadership and interpersonal.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft products.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% within assigned territory, which could include airline and overnight travel.

What we'd prefer:

  • Minimum of five years of SBQ Bar and/or Wire Rod experience.
  • Experience in a team environment with problem solving techniques.

What you'll do:

  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong commercial relationships across all functions of the customer organization with the aim of optimizing short term and long-term profitability and performance. Apply and record all selling and strategic business details used to achieve and exceed revenue and customer satisfaction targets.
  • Territory Planning and Management: Effectively develop and execute a territory penetration and growth strategy to capture market share. This includes growing sales with existing customers and identifying and acquiring new accounts.
  • Strategic Account Management: develop a deep understanding of our customer's business including strategic direction, value drivers, sourcing criteria, and key decision makers in order further penetrate key strategic accounts. Leverage this understanding to maximize long term volumes and margins.
  • Contract Management: Lead annual and price in effect negotiations with customer base as well as enhancing margin on new and existing product offering.
  • Market & Product Knowledge: Supports short and long-term strategic planning and execution though in-depth knowledge of economic indicators, customers, competitors, markets, products & process, pricing, cost, and profit margin.
  • Internal Relationship Management: Partner closely with the Technical Service Engineer who is responsible for managing the technical relationship with the customer. Develop strong relationships with Marketing, Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Logistics and Inside Sales to facilitate process improvements that maximize value for the customer and Charter Steel.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Develop and maintain a keen knowledge of competitors' capabilities and market strategies.
  • New Account Development: Support the continued growth of the business through the identification and development of new accounts.
