We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Tax & Treasury to provide leadership and vision. With 1,400 employees, 18 global facility locations and selling into over 80 countries, the Director of Tax & Treasury will be part of a fast-paced, global team, and will partner with internal and external stakeholders to support the day-to-day operations of the Tax team, Treasury team, and the business. The Director of Tax & Treasury will report directly to the CFO of Johnson Outdoors.

Based in beautiful and affordable Racine, Wisconsin, at our Headquarters on the shore of Lake Michigan, you'll have incredible access to a variety of outdoor activities whether skiing and snowmobiling in winter, or kayaking, fishing, sailing, hiking or more in summer. Close to both Milwaukee and Chicago, the area boasts a wide variety of amenities including a vibrant arts and culture scene and a host of unique, creative dining options.

About the Role:

The person in this role directs the global tax, treasury, and insurance functions of Johnson Outdoors. Oversees and directs the company's tax policies, objectives and related activities including compliance with local, state, federal, and international tax laws. Manages the organization's financial resources, liquidity, and risk, spanning across cash management, investment strategies, and financial relationships. Oversees and manages insurance strategies and programs within the organization.

What you will be doing:

Tax Policy Development and Oversight

* Develop and implement tax strategies aligned with the organization's goals. Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance. Provide guidance on tax planning and risk management.

Tax Compliance and Reporting

* Oversee tax reporting processes, including accurate and timely filing of tax returns. Collaborate with internal teams and external advisors to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes. Manage tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.

Tax Optimization

* Work to minimize the organization's tax obligations while maintaining compliance. Identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies. Evaluate tax implications of business decisions and transactions.

Treasury Strategy and Risk Management

* Develop and execute the company's treasury strategy aligned with financial objectives. Evaluate and mitigate financial risks related to liquidity, interest rates, and foreign exchange. Monitor market trends and regulatory changes impacting treasury operations.

Cash Flow and Liquidity Management

* Oversee daily cash flow activities, ensuring optimal liquidity for operational needs. Implement cash forecasting models to optimize working capital.

Capital Structure and Funding

* Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to structure debt and equity financing. Ensure compliance with debt covenants and financial agreements.

Cash Investment and Portfolio Management

* Develop investment policies and guidelines for surplus funds. Monitor investment portfolios, balancing risk and return. Assess investment opportunities, including money market instruments and fixed income securities.

Banking Relationships and Negotiations

* Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions. Negotiate terms for banking services, credit lines, and foreign exchange transactions. Optimize bank fees and minimize costs.

Insurance Leadership

* Develop and execute the company's insurance strategy, aligning it with business goals. Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks. Collaborate with senior management to optimize insurance programs. Negotiate insurance contracts with carriers and brokers. Review policy terms, coverage limits, and exclusions.

Financial Reporting

* Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to prepare accurate financial statements. Ensure tax and treasury disclosures are complete and accurate. Coordinate relevant external audit requirements and inquiries.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility:

  • Prepares and approves department budgets while ensuring budgets are managed within approved guidelines.
  • Develops and approves departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines to meet business needs.
  • In partnership with human resources, oversees human resources responsibilities for staff which includes but is not limited to the following: hiring and terminating employees, promotions/pay adjustments, staff development, performance evaluations, resolution of employee concerns and disciplinary counseling.

Knowledge & Background Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of experience of leading and directing global tax and treasury functions including US corporate tax experience with one or more publicly held companies or public accounting firms as well as international tax experience.
  • Broad general experience in U.S. tax issues, including extensive experience in the areas of tax research and planning, tax-driven financing and corporate restructurings, tax audits, foreign corporate tax compliance, ASC 740, and PCAOB tax implications.
  • Well-developed presentation skills and ability to explain complex tax and treasury issues
  • Highly motivated, results-minded and adaptive individual with established managerial and inter-personal skills.
  • Exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Strong strategic planning and leadership skills.
  • Ability to provide expert level business consultation on tax, insurance and treasury related projects or issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate/collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, leadership, and external organizations. Relevant international experience and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite.. Proficiency with ERP software like JDEdwards, SAP, or equivalent.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, estimated at 10 - 15% of annual work time.
