GrafTech International has a challenging opportunity for a Customer Technical Service Engineer on its Customer Technical Service team. This position will provide strategic technical services to customers and provide feedback and direction regarding customer perception of product application and performance used to improve processes and products. This engineer will provide customers with value-added service contributions that help to improve their production process and reduce costs. The candidate must have a strong technical background w electrical engineering preferred, be a self-starter, problem solver and disciplined work habits. This position will be located in the Corporate Office in Brooklyn Heights, OH or St. Marys, PA.

Responsibilities:

  • Visit customers to enhance product application, deliver value added services and acquire competitive performance information.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of customer account strategy in the assigned area. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in customer accounts.
  • Collect and analyze data to provide customers with deep technical insight regarding product operations and process control optimization.
  • Analyze product performance and recommend commercial value-added differentiation strategies in collaboration with Sales.
  • Maintain GTI technical leadership in Arc Furnace Technology by assisting the Arc Furnace Monitoring team developing "state of the art" instrumentation required to collect necessary EAF data.
  • Lead the customer complaint resolution process and initiates preventive measures, separate common and special cause issues, develop and implement short and long term corrections.
  • Coordinate customer electrode trials through sales.
  • Benchmark competitive performance, service, and commercial issues; monitor, interpret, and report competitive intelligence and recommend actions to R&D and other GTI internal functions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical University Degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing, EAF steelmaking processes. Electrical Engineering background preferred.
  • Strong problem solving skills, data handling & analysis and computer skills (Microsoft Office, databases, Customer Relationship Software is a plus...).
  • Strong oral & written communication skills, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Desire to work on heavy manufacturing process environment. Experience in the steel making process is desired, EAF area preferred.
  • Business savvy desire to translate technical efforts into tangible business outcomes.
  • Moderate understanding of PLC architecture. Understanding of statistical methods skills and experimental design (Six Sigma).
  • Aptitude for grasping process control procedures & manufacturing operational sequences.
  • Team player; time management skills. Open to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Domestic travel 50-75% with some international travel to steelmaking production facilities and other high-level clients.
